NEW: "True Detective : Night Country" with Jodie Foster

Jodie Foster and Kali Reis are in the lead roles in the new chapter of the acclaimed anthology series "True Detective: Night Country". Finally, after several teasers, this series received an official trailer that provided details about the plot.

The fourth season of the drama series takes us to Alaska, a place of eternal darkness or eternal sun. Detective Liz Danvers ( Foster ) has a mysterious case in front of her when eight men working at the Arctic research station Tsalal disappear without a trace. To solve the case, her former colleague, detective Evangeline Navarro ( Reis ), enters the game. This is a chance for the two of them to work together for the last time and solve a terrible mystery - and one of them is the spiral marks that we saw in the first and third seasons.

Issa López is the showrunner of the series and she wrote and directed all six episodes, and series creator Nic Pizzolatto is one of the executive producers of this season.  In addition to Foster and Reis, Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, John Hawkes, Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, June Thiele, Diane Benson, and Joel D. Montgrand star.

We will have the chance to watch "True Detective: Night Country",  on the streaming service (HBO) Max on January 14, 2024. The final, sixth episode is scheduled for February 18.

History and return of the series

There was never any guarantee that "True Detective" Season 4 would ever come out. The first season, which aired in 2014, starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. However, the second season with Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Vince Vaughn did not achieve the same success - while the third installment with Mahershal Ali in 2019 was widely seen as the true comeback of the series. After the third season, creator Nick Pizzolatto's contract with HBO expired, leaving the series' future uncertain. However, in March 2022, the platform confirmed a new season with executive producer Barry Jenkins and writer-director Issa López.
