Dua Lipa Accused of Stealing in New Lawsuit

Is she a thief? Famous pop singer Dua Lipa was sued for copyright infringement by a reggae band from Florida who claims that the British pop star stole her hit "Levitating" from a lesser-known band and their song from 2017.

In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Los Angeles, members of a band called “Artikal Sound System” claim that Lipa's song "Levitating" - which spent 68 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 song list and was first on the 2021 Hot 100 song list - is actually a copy the song "Live your Life".

The lawsuit was very short and contained mostly stenciled allegations of copyright infringement, with very little detail on how and why Lipa allegedly copied the song. This is not her first time being accused of doing something like this. It was written that the two songs are so similar that "it is unlikely that 'Levitating' was created independently."

"Levitating", released in 2020 on Lipa's second studio album "Future Nostalgia", was a big hit, eventually reaching No. 1 on the Hot 100 list and securing the title of the longest-running top 10 songs ever by a female artist on the list.

Artikal Sound System” is a reggae band based in South Florida, founded in 2012 as a duo, before they later added more musicians and vocals - for example, Logan Rex. The band released "Live your Life" on their 2017 album "Smoke and Mirrors".

As in any copyright case, the lawsuit against Lipa states that she had "access" to an earlier version of their song, which means that she heard the song, which thus gave her the opportunity to copy it. But the case does not explain exactly why the band believes that the pop star actually heard their song and copied it.

The lawsuit also blames Warner Records, as well as others who helped create "Levitating." Representatives of Lipa and Warner Music Group did not respond to allegations yet. We can not actually see much resemblance. Check out the song below and let us know what do you think!
