After many years, the British singer Ellie Goulding spoke about the rumors that she cheated on the musician Ed Sheeran with the former member of the band One Direction, Niall Horan. The singer fueled rumors of a relationship with Sheeran back in 2013, and later it was speculated that she got into a relationship with Horan, after Sheeran wrote the song "Don't".
Goulding posted a video on her TikTok profile over Christmas and responded to a fan who wrote: "I can't believe you cheated on Ed with Niall"."Incorrect!," replied the singer.
Sheeran wrote the hit song "Don't" about a girl who cheats on him with a friend, and the rumor was that the song is about Goulding and Horan. Goulding and Sheeran were rumored to be dating after they were seen holding hands at the MTV VMAs in late 2013. However, she soon took to Twitter to deny the new romance, insisting they were just friends.
"I love holding hands with my friend and that doesn't mean that we are together. In that case, I am in many relationships," she wrote at the time in a post that was later deleted.
But Sheeran had a slightly different version of the story when he talked about their relationship on the "Clock 98.9" show. When he was asked about the rumors, he revealed that they were little more than friends at the time. "Normal people don't hold hands if they are just friends", he pointed out.
In 2015, in an interview with Elle, Goulding admitted that she had a romance with Horan, but insisted that she never dated Sheeran.

"I went on a few dates with Niall, but I was never in a relationship with Ed. I have no idea where that came from and why it was made into such a big deal. It's so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven't dated. I talked a lot about that with Taylor (Swift). She definitely feels it," she explained.
"You can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but what everyone will talk about is some relationship they think you had or didn't have. This is definitely something that we both think happens to both male and female artists," she added.
She also said that the song "Don't" helped Sheeran "get over his anger" about the woman who betrayed him.
Today Goulding is married to Caspar Jopling, and in 2021 they had their first child, son Arthur. Sheeran married his childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn in 2019, with whom he has two daughters.
