F1 2022 triples performance thanks to NVIDIA DLSS
The release of F1 2022 is scheduled for July 1, but thanks to NVIDIA, we can already see what performance we can expect from this game with some of its most popular graphics cards in 4K resolution, though the comparison would have been much better if the GeForce RTX 3060 and GeForce RTX 3050 were included in a separate graphic showing the performance in 1440p resolution.
According to the comparison provided by NVIDIA, F1 2022 only manages 43 FPS in 4K with a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti at the highest quality and with ray tracing enabled. The GeForce RTX 3080 maintains 37 FPS with the same configuration, but the GeForce RTX 3070 and 3060 Ti manage 27 and 22 FPS, respectively, which are undesirable since they translate into insufficient smoothness.
Simply activating the DLSS in performance mode increases the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti's average frame rate from 22 to 60 frames per second, which is a remarkable jump given that the technique essentially triples the performance. The GeForce RTX 3070 improves significantly, increasing from 27 FPS to 72 FPS on average, while the GeForce RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti improve to 95 and 109 FPS, respectively.
Because of NVIDIA DLSS technology, a graphics card like the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, which could be purchased for 419 dollars at the time, is capable of moving F1 2022 in 4K with maximum quality and active ray tracing while sustaining 60 frames per second. It is a remarkable accomplishment, and the greatest part is that this technology is also compatible with the GeForce RTX 20 series.
Looking at the month of June, we can see that the list of games compatible with these technologies has risen significantly. One of the most significant additions is F1 2022, which supports both technologies. In June, Jurassic World Evolution 2 acquired support for both, and Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard received a patch that added ray tracing.
Another significant release that will support NVIDIA Reflex, NVIDIA DLSS, and Ray Tracing is Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, as well as A Plague Tale: Requiem, a highly anticipated game that we were fortunate to witness in action recently. NVIDIA claims that around 280 games and applications support DLSS and/or ray tracing, implying that they support at least one of these two technologies.
