Gossip Girl star in Netflix's new mystery
Netflix movies and series take viewers all around the world. After the mega-popular "Game of Thrones" (HBO), which has attracted the attention of the entire planet to the Croatian coast since the second season (even celebrities rush to take pictures in recognizable locations), the Adriatic is in focus again with the new film.
‘‘Weekend away” by Australian director Kim Farrant, with the help of production service Pakt Media, was shot in the spring and summer of 2021 in Split, where the film itself takes place. The film will be available on Netflix, streaming from March 3, 2022.
The film, for which a trailer has been released, is based on the novel of the same name by writer Sarah Alderson, except for the fact that according to the book plot takes place in Lisbon, and not in Split.
The main role in the film is played by Leighton Meester, who is best known to the general public for her role in the TV series Gossip Girl (2007-2012), and she also stars Christina Wolfe, Luke Norris and Ziad Bakri.
The film is described as a very tense psychological thriller. ''Weekend Away'' follows two friends Beth (Leighton Meester) and Kate (Christina Wolfe) who are arriving in Croatia for a weekend getaway. After spending the night together at the club, Beth wakes up in the morning with no memory of the night before, and Kate’s body is found in the sea. Croatian police suspect Beth of murder, after which she tries to find the truth. This, in turn, will lead her to some painful insights. As the main suspect for this crime, Beth hopes to uncover an alibi as well as discover who the real killer or killers could be. Who can Beth trust to help her unravel the brutal murder of her best friend? With twists and turns at every corner, the film will for sure keep the audience guessing.
