It has been 12 years since the death of King of Pop Michael Jackson. The controversial musician, a child prodigy, and later one of the greatest musicians of all time, passed away on June 25, 2009, at 2 pm local time. It was news that stunned the whole world despite the fact that it was actually quite clear that Jackson was not in top form. But he was only 50 years old, in two months he would have celebrated his 51st birthday.

The singer collapsed at his home in Los Angeles and despite attempts to revive him, there was no escape. He died of cardiac arrest and propofol, lorazepam, and midazolam were found in his blood. Precisely because of propofol, Jackson actually overdosed. Furthermore, as the drug was given to him by his personal physician Conrad Murray, he was later sentenced to four years in prison for negligent homicide.

His personal life was, to say the least, a mess. Not only because he lived in some of his own eccentric world, but his career was nearly ruined by allegations of child sexual abuse. It was never proven in court, but that terrible stain remained on his life and work, a musical legacy that is truly magnificent.

The most award-winning musician of all time, he was the eighth child in the Jackson family and at just five years old made his stage debut with older brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the band Jackson 5. The family project was led by their father Joe Jackson. As it would turn out later, he was a very violent and difficult person. Undoubtedly, the abusive father marked his life. He didn't have a normal childhood because of his music career anyway, and on the other hand, he had a father who hit him for the slightest mistake.

During his career, according to some estimates, he sold more than 350 million albums. He is survived by three children - son Michael "Prince" Jackson Jr., daughter Paris, and youngest son Biggie Jackson. They were insured for the rest of their lives, both them and their descendants because despite Jackson getting into financial trouble during his lifetime, his foundation did great after his death. In fact, according to Forbes, in 2016 the foundation earned as much as 825 million US dollars, which was the highest earnings of a star ever recorded.
