Johnny Depp still in conflict with his ex: You can learn from my example, cancel culture is dangerous and no one is safe

Notwithstanding that court ruled in his favor, the shadow is cast on Johnny Depp’s career, so even in the moments when he is doing his job and receiving an award, as was the case these days at the San Sebastian Festival, questions and his story are mostly tied to his ex-wife.

Johnny Depp received an honorary award for his work and career so far at the prestigious Spanish festival in San SebastianWhile receiving the award, he referred to the main topic around which his life has been revolving for the last few years.

"It can be seen as an event in history that lasted for however long it lasted, this cancel culture, this instant rush to judgment based on what essentially amounts to polluted air," the 58-year-old actor replied.

"It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe,” he continued. “It takes one sentence and there’s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It’s not just me that this has happened to, it’s happened to a lot of people. This type of thing has happened to women, men. Sadly at a certain point, they begin to think that it’s normal. Or that it’s them. When it’s not,” Depp warned.

Let us remind you, Johnny Depp was found guilty of abusing his ex-wife Amber Heard in November last year. He filed an appeal to this verdict and presented new evidence, so after 10 months, it turned out that the actor was not guilty after all.

Women's rights associations are united in the fight against the festival itself. They stated that: if the perpetrator is celebrated, allowing him to continue to achieve public success, it is implied that the abuse is acceptable and that it is not important."

However, the representatives of the festival answered that the court had its say and that there were no legal or moral pitfalls due to which they could not distinguish Depp and his career.

In America, despite the favourable court decision, Johnny Depp lost several roles and film franchises, while in Europe, after receiving the award in Spain, Depp appeared as a distinguished guest in the Czech Republic this summer at the festival in Karlovy Vary.
