Listening to background music on YouTube Music becomes possible without a subscription

The good news is coming for those who use YouTube Music, as the company has announced that it will finally allow users to continue listening to background music while, for example, browsing Instagram or their screen is completely off.

For starters, this feature will initially only be available to users in Canada, who will be able to listen to all the content loaded in their accounts and standard custom radio mixes that support commercials in the background.

“Music lovers, rejoice! Background listening is coming to YouTube Music, and Canada will be the first to enjoy this new feature from November 3,” it was announced Google Canada official Twitter account.

According to The Verge, this is the first time that YouTube Music has offered this feature without requiring users to subscribe to the Premium package. Recall, free background listening has long been offered by the company's competitors, such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer, and others.

It is currently unknown what free listening to background music will mean for YouTube Music subscribers, or whether they will get some new benefits, but judging by the fact that they significantly "stumble" behind their rivals, it is assumed that the company is actively working on it.
