Need for Speed 2022: Is it called NFS Unbound

Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele said in July 2021 that fans would have to wait until 2023 for a new Need for Speed.

However, the EA employee meant fiscal year, implying that the arcade racing game may be released in autumn 2022. The new NFS has no restrictions on what it can offer.

So far, it appears that Criterion is collaborating on the new NFS with Codemasters Cheshire, the creators of Dirt 5. The latest arcade racing game, NFS Unbound, will be revealed in July, according to leaker Tom Henderson.

According to the source, NFS Unbound will include the Meetup feature, which sounds similar to the function description of the auto log tool in the Criterion Need for Speed Hot Pursuit remaster.

Drivers can meet and race each other across the map. The characters are designed to seem like they're from the TV show The Boondocks, thus they're in a comic book style.

If Jeff Grubb gets his way, the upcoming Need for Speed will be situated in Miami, whereas Henderson is referring to Lake Shore City, a fictional Chicago.

It's unknown which graphics engine will power the new NFS. EA's Frostbite engine is used in many games, and Codemasters will shortly switch to Unreal Engine 5 after the cutscenes in F1 2021's story mode were built with Unreal Engine 4.

NFS Unbound may be limited to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Playstation 5.
