Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic
All in one
Samsung's Classic version of the new Watch4 model retains its favorite rotating edge with a modernized body design that is now even smaller compared to the standard 1.4 ”screen
Watch4 is the current flagship watch from Samsung that offered a sea of features until a month ago. It has been available for a long time now, and at the beginning of the year, Samsung, together with a new line of mobile phones, released a major update with a number of new features to refresh the watch for 2022.
The current watch has one big advantage, but first of all, we should mention that of the two categories, this one belongs to the one with a large number of options, but with shorter battery life.
The advantage of this watch is that the system it uses was made together with Google, ie the watch no longer uses TizenOS, but the latest version of WatchOS (3.0) with Samsung's OneUI skin for a personalized design.
What Samsung users get is the functionality of all applications on the Google Play Store for WatchOS, as well as all applications from the Samsung store, including all faces for the hour, as well as compatible applications for sports tracking, map navigation, and even games. Unfortunately, the best experience will be given to Samsung mobile phone users with additional features.
The watch itself comes in two sizes, with a case size of 46 or 42 mm in diameter. While this may not sound like much at first, in reality, the difference is very noticeable. We have a larger version in the test, and it also comes with a Super AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 1.4 ” and a resolution of sharp 450 x 450 pixels, so all the details are very legible and clear.
While the screen itself is protected by Gorilla Gass DX glass, the case frame is steel in the standard version we are testing. The right edge of the watch has two buttons and both are now flat, unlike the crown-like design of the Watch3. The watch comes with the IP68 standard so you don’t need to be afraid of water, but we’re talking freshwater because saltwater will potentially corrode it with longer exposure.
Inside, the Watch4 has received a major update compared to other WearOS watches as it uses Samsung’s latest chipset, the Exynos W920 printed on a 5 nm manufacturing process. The watch also has 16 GB of storage with 1.5 GB of RAM. Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFI are used for connection, and eSim is also supported by service providers who support them with us so that your emergency watch can replace your mobile phone.
It is important to keep in mind that all these functions will affect the performance of the battery, so by using the various functions you can see which ones you need, turn them on as needed and thus save the battery.
Clock system
You primarily move through the system by turning the clock, which greatly simplifies navigation because it leaves the screen visible. The option is of course to use the touchscreen as on the mobile phone, and you have quick access to notifications from the mobile phone and all applications on the watch.
By turning the ring or scrolling to the right you get to the clock widget or simpler views of various installed applications that you can always add or remove from the list. Widgets are also a great way to get acquainted with the clock as they offer all the latest features of your clock.
Keep in mind that you will need some time to set up everything, especially the new measurement functions. The watch will monitor your steps with a pedometer, active time and of course, calories burned.
The second widget already offers you the start of following one of the many sports and exercises pre-programmed in class. Depending on the exercise, they don’t all offer the same level of accurate tracking, but they will all offer you at least heart rate and calorie consumption.
Depending on the exercise, GPS tracking will be included so you can see the distance later, but the app will also be able to offer more detailed information about recreation. There is also a sleeping widget, and the watch will monitor your sleep quality in accordance with your mobile phone, as well as snoring during the night.
We used Samsung’s mobile phone for testing, but other brands might have limited experience with some watch features. In addition to monitoring your heart rate, the watch can also monitor your blood oxygen saturation, important information for athletes, but also during sleep.
Besides, an hour also has the option of ECG analysis of your heart rhythm, and for the process, you will have to lightly press the upper button with your index finger and be very calm while the data is being processed.
Detected heart rate can be seen directly on the screen and is noticeably different in different people, but it is still only informative. The watch also has the ability to monitor blood pressure. The first three uses are used to calibrate the operation of the clock using the right instrument by telling the clock the values that the instrument shows you.
After that, this calibration needs to be done once a month in order to keep the clock measurements at maximum accuracy, but of course, the information is again informative. What the watch has more than the competition is certainly measuring body composition. The function works similarly to ECG measurement, but now you have to hold two fingers on the two clock buttons.
We compared the results we got with a smart scale and they are not even close to each other, but while more products do not incorporate such measurements, it is difficult to say who is right, especially because body composition is a very complicated measurement, so we put this function in the "informative" category, but we would not be guided by it.
The clock from the measured values also calculates the level of your stress, which turned out to be more or less accurate, because while it is difficult to say from 1 to 100 your own stress level, if you relax, the clock will show, but also if you are physically calm. squeeze ”at work, the clock will record that too.
These features are just the basics that come with the watch, not to mention all the apps on both Google and Samsung stores. In addition, many apps have more advanced features when you wear the watch for a while, such as exercise tips for HIIT workouts, VO2Max percentage, and time needed to recover from exercise, as well as a cooldown period.
The new big update also brings setting your own goals, from exercise to body composition. A great update has also been given to the sleep app that can help you with tips to achieve your desired sleep experience (8 in choice), but it is emphasized that this is not medical advice.
The new generation of smartwatches and sports watches are ready for the arrival of spring, and they offer an increasing amount of possibilities with an increasingly attractive design.
The market is saturated with a rich selection of all price ranges, and we believe that everyone will be satisfied with the choice.
