Sony announced the end of the shortage

Sony states that anyone who wants to can now purchase their console.

Despite the PlayStation 5's November 2020 release date, getting your hands on this device has needed a lot of luck or a lot of money, and occasionally both, due to enormous demand and global shortages. Sony, on the other hand, says that this is no longer the case.

During a presentation at the CES 2023 event, Jim Ryan, president, and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment discussed console shortages.

"Everyone who wants a PS5 will have a much easier time locating it in stores internationally, starting now," Ryan added, before thanking fans for their patience over the past two years.

Ryan did not explain how the change occurred, but it's expected that we're witnessing the fruits of Sony's promise last May that it would increase production and grow its portfolio of PlayStation 5 games.

Unfortunately, the CEO's statements should be taken with a grain of salt, as Sony made similar claims last summer, despite the fact that purchasing one of the machines required paying an additional fee for a bundle that included numerous games or an add-on.

Sony also revealed the most recent console sales numbers. According to the Japanese conglomerate, 30 million units have been sold internationally thus far, an increase of around 5 million since the data were last published in November.

This result indicates that the PlayStation 5 has surpassed the Atari 2600 to occupy 19th place on the list of all-time best-selling systems, trailing only the Sega Genesis and the Nintendo 64.

Let us remind you that, despite vows not to remove Call of Duty from their platforms, Sony is presently contesting Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
