We will have to wait two years for the release of the movie "Joker: Folie à Deux" in cinemas, but the director has decided to please all fans of DC comics. Namely, Todd Phillips, winner of three nominations for the Oscar after he found himself in the role of co-writer and director of "Joker", on his Instagram account shared a photo of Joaquin Phoenix in the role of Arthur Fleck, in order to announce the start of the production of the sequel.

"Day 1. Our boy," Phillips wrote in the caption, which accompanied a picture of the shirtless actor being shaved at Arkham Asylum.

The photo doesn't offer any new details, such as Lady Gaga's alleged appearance as Harley Quinn. "The House of Gucci" star joined the film's cast in August when it was revealed that the sequel would take the form of a musical.

Although the appearance of Lady Gaga in the new role is still kept under wraps, she already has her main advocate. Margot Robbie, who famously played the iconic villain in three films starting with David Ayer's Suicide Squad, recently voiced her support for the move.

"It makes me very happy because I've said from the beginning that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters - the way Macbeth or Batman always goes from one great actor to another," Robbie said in an interview earlier this year. "It's such an honor to build a strong enough foundation that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors are trying to bring to life. And I think she's going to do something incredible with that," she added.

Phillips' musical sequel comes as DC Comics is in the midst of major upheaval due to changes in management at Warner Bros., but fans of the Joker universe have nothing to worry about. Statements so far have indicated that Phillips' Joker films will continue to exist outside of the shared universe.

"Joker: Folie à Deux" is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
