Steve Jordan could take the place of the legendary Charlie!

After doctors advised Charlie Watts to rest after heart surgery and not go on a planned U.S. tour with the Stones, it was announced that he would be replaced on drums by  Steve Jordan,  64. For Watts, it would be the Stones’ first tour he would not participate in.

Frontman  Mick Jagger,  78, wrote via his social media in early August that they were ‘looking forward to Charlie’s return when he recovers’, which unfortunately did not happen. It was already announced then that Jordan would perform with them, and that was what Watts himself wanted.

The 'No Filter' tour has not been canceled yet and should take place in 13 US cities this fall, and it is unknown whether Jordan will become his permanent replacement after Watts' death.

Jordan, in addition to being a drummer, is a singer, songwriter, and producer. His earlier collaborations have included greats such as  Neil Young,  Stevie Nicks,  Bob Dylan,  Billy Joel,  Bruce Springsteen,  Eric Clapton, and the Blues Brothers. He has won Grammy and Emmy awards throughout his career.

He first played with the Stones when they recorded their 1986 album ‘Dirty Work’ and even played on some songs. The second time he took over Watts’ sticks was in 1987 for the purposes of the concert documentary 'Hail! Hail! Rock'n'Roll' in which Charlie could not participate.

He then went on to collaborate with guitarist Keith Richards  (77) on his solo albums ‘Main Offender’ and ‘Crosseyed Heart’.

- With him, I managed to achieve some things that I would say with the Stones 'no, we can't do that, it's too complicated' - Richards said in an interview with Rolling Stone .

Jordan said he was looking forward to 'rehearsals with Mick, Keith, and Ronnie', Yahoo reports.

It’s an absolute honor to be Charlie’s backup,” he said in early August.
