Prince Philip did not want to live to a hundred: Elizabeth wants it, it is insane to me
Philip lived to be 99, and the author of his biography is convinced he passed away happy. As he says, Philip was much gentler and kinder than the image that was created about him.
The author of the biography 'Philip: The Final Portrait' of Prince Philip, Gyles Brandreth (73) told some details from their socializing, as well as some of Philip's thoughts on life:
"I certainly don't want to live to be a hundred like Queen Elizabeth," People reports .
Gyles had known Philip for four decades, he says, and even considered him a friend as much as possible. They spent a lot of time talking, so the duke revealed to him that he did not want to live too long.
- I can't imagine anything worse. I'm already falling apart, I have no desire to cling to life convulsively and unnecessarily.
While hanging out with Philip, he met him on a personal level that differed from the image presented to the public.
- He was much gentler and kinder than one thinks of him. I had the huge privilege of knowing him for years and getting a special approach to his life, as well as the opportunity to write this biography, ”Brandreth said.
As he says, Philip was open to talking about various topics, and once Gyles asked him if he had fun:
- Fun? I don't think so much of it. Cricket used to be fun, as were carriage rides.
He found that he didn’t know how to accurately describe his life, but that he made an effort to ‘continue the show’.
