Film starring Denzel Washington in the lead for the Oscars

"The Tragedy of Macbeth" is inspired by the play of the same name by William Shakespeare. It was directed by Joel Cohen, and he is also the screenwriter of the film. It is interesting that this is the first film that Joel worked on alone without his brother Ethan Cohen, with whom he has been successfully collaborating since 1984.

The tragedy of Macbeth is described as an original and bold adaptation of the legendary Shakespeare's play about ambition, murder, greed, and madness. Shot in black and white, this film story follows military leader Macbeth, whom three witches predict will become King of Scotland. Encouraged by his ambitious wife Lady Macbeth, he accepts his fate and chooses no means to seize the throne.

The title character is played by Denzel Washington, while his wife is played by Frances McDormand. Supporting characters include Corey Hawkins, Brendan Gleeson, Harry MellingBertie Carvel, and Kathryn Hunter, among others.

The Macbeth tragedy premiered at the New York Film Festival on September 24. The film received a great reception, so critics are already predicting a lot of Oscars for it, including the one for best film. We remind you that Joel Cohen, together with his brother Ethan, has already won four Oscars, Denzel Washington has two in his showcase, and Frances McDormand has four.

This film adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy will start its cinematic life on December 25, while it will be available on the Apple TV+ streaming service from January 14.
