"The Peripheral" - Amazon's adaptation of Gibson's novel
This is a project in progress since April 2018, when Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan tackled it.
As part of New York Comic-Con, Amazon released a full trailer for the sci-fi series "The Peripheral", a TV adaptation of William Gibson's novel of the same name from 2014. It is a project that has been in the works since April 2018, when Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan tackled it. The script for the adaptation is written by Scott B. Smith (A Simple Plan), who is also the showrunner and one of the executive producers. The director and executive producer is Vincenzo Natali (Cube, In the Tall Grass), while the other executive producers are Greg Plageman (Person of Interest), Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (Westworld), Athena Wickham (Westworld), and Steven Hoban (In the Tall Grass). The series is a co-production of Amazon Studios and Warner Bros Television in cooperation with Kilter Films.
Flynne Fisher lives in the rural American South, working at a local 3D printer while earning some much-needed extra cash playing VR games for rich people. So one night, using a specific headset, she found herself in futuristic London — an elegant and mysterious world. But this is unlike any game she's ever played and Flynne begins to realize that this isn't virtual reality. It's reality. Someone in London, seventy years in the future, found a way to open the door to Flynn's world. And as much as London is extremely seductive, it is also dangerous. As Flynne tries to discover who connected their worlds and for what purpose, her presence here stirs up dangerous forces.
During a panel at New York Comic-Con, Lisa Joy emphasized that one of her goals in the series was to capture the "imaginative breath of the future." This was something that was immediately confirmed by JJ Field, who portrays the character of Lev. "That style of futuristic London is something I've never seen before." - said Field.
The series is set in two different worlds – Clanton 2032 and London 2099. Natali described this relationship as a true romance between two worlds. “Everything in London is something that Flynne longs for or wants to escape to. And yet there is this time gap between Clanton and London. That's what made it all really, really exciting.” Natali stated.
In this series, the main stars are Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) as Flynne Fisher and Jack Reynor (Midsommar) as Burton. The other actors are Gary Carr (The Deuce), Eli Goree (One Night in Miami), Louis Herthum (Westworld), JJ Feild (TURN: Washington’s Spies), T’Nia Miller (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders), Alexandra Billings (The Conners), Adeline Horan (The Deuce), Alex Hernandez (UnReal), Katie Leung (Chimerica), Julian Moore-Cook (Peaky Blinders), Melinda Page Hamilton (Messiah), Chris Coy (The Deuce) and Austin Rising (Alt).
"The Peripheral" series premiered on Amazon Prime on October 21st so you can watch it without waiting.
