The director Rian Johnson decided in the continuation of "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" to openly and unreservedly attack all those persons that he considers harmful to society.
The career path of the American director Rian Johnson (49) looks almost ideal. After several short films, in 2005 he made the modern black film "Brick", which almost immediately established him as an exciting young director. The modest budget with which he made "Brick" immediately grew, and in 2008 he made "The Brothers Bloom", for 20 million dollars - and failed. Then he continued his career and successfully rehabilitated it by directing one episode of the television series "Terriers" and "On the Way Down".
"The Fly", the tenth episode of the third season of the series "On the way down", showed the Hollywood masters that Johnson still has a lot to give and show, and in 2012 he directed "Looper", an action film with elements of science fiction. "Looper" was well received by both critics and audiences and gave Johnson the opportunity to choose his next project. In 2017, he directed the eighth episode of the "Star Wars" series.
After that, Johnson could once again choose what his next project would be. After a lucrative but exhausting collaboration with Disney on "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" , the in-demand director returned to the story he conceived in 2005, the story of a detective trying to find out who killed the rich and famous crime writer Harlan Thrombey.
Compared to "The Last Jedi", "Knives Out" and its $40 million budget seemed like a career step backward, maybe even a punishment, but Johnson turned it into a huge success. Thanks to an excellent cast and Johnson's precise and energetic direction, "Knives Out" made an income of 312 million dollars and once again showed that Daniel Craig is actually a character actor who "plays" a movie star.
The streaming platform Netflix, always hungry for content to attract subscribers, cashed in a dizzying $469 million for the rights to two sequels to "Knives Out", but of course only if Johnson will write and direct them and if Craig will reprise the character of detective Benoit Blanc, a modern version of the legendary Hercule Poirot.
