The characters of the series are based on the heroes of the novel by writer Caroline Graham. Her book 'Murders in Badger's Drift', which inspired the series, was chosen by the Association of Crime Novel Authors (CWA) as one of the 100 best crime novels in history.

Lead actor John Nettles (Tom Barnaby) in the 14th season of the series was replaced today by 59-year-old Neil Dudgeon as Barnaby no. 2 and plays his cousin John Barnaby. Interestingly, Dudgeon appeared earlier in the series in the first episode of the fourth season of 'Garden of Death' in 2010, but then he played the womanizer Daniel Bolt from the village where the murder was committed.

'John is always on guard. He adapts to the situation in order to get results, even if it sometimes turns out to be weak or funny. He is quite direct and has a typical black English sense of humor,' said Dudgeon.

The British actor lives in a cottage in London and has a miniature garden. He is married to BBC radio producer Mary Peate. They have two children, Joe and Greta Dudgeon. At one time, he told what sequel to the series he will always remember. ‘It was‘ The Cooper Hill Incident ’we filmed in 2016 and went a little too far in the direction of ‘The X-Files’. When I read in the script that forensics were digging at the site of a UFO crash, I thought, ‘We’ve gone completely insane,’ ”Dudgeon said.

By the way, many, today's famous Hollywood faces starred in the famous crime series 'Murders in Midsomer'. For example, Superman Henry Cavill starred in the episode ‘The Green Man’, in which his character was bitten by angry foxes, and Sharon Stone, Joan Collins, and Johnny Depp are just some of the famous actors who have expressed a desire to appear in the role of victims in this series.
