Who is Neil Dudgeon, the actor who plays the likeable Inspector Barnaby in the series 'Murders in Midsomer'
The popular series is set in the fictional district of Midsomer and its small picturesque villages. It started in 1997 and had a fantastic start. The first episode, 'The Killings at Badger's Drift', attracted an insanely large number of viewers - it was watched by as many as 13.5 million people, which is why it was declared the most-watched TV drama in 1997. Senior Inspector John Barnaby from season 14 is played by Neil Dudgeon.
The characters of the series are based on the heroes of the novel by writer Caroline Graham. Her book 'Murders in Badger's Drift', which inspired the series, was chosen by the Association of Crime Novel Authors (CWA) as one of the 100 best crime novels in history.
Lead actor John Nettles (Tom Barnaby) in the 14th season of the series was replaced today by 59-year-old Neil Dudgeon as Barnaby no. 2 and plays his cousin John Barnaby. The British actor lives in a cottage in London and has a miniature garden. He is married to BBC radio producer Mary Peate. They have two children, Joe and Greta Dudgeon.
