Who plays the Thing in "Wednesday"

Since its November 23 premiere, the first season of " Wednesday " has taken Netflix by storm, easily surpassing streamer records. For six weeks, it was the most-watched show, and we can now state with clarity that it has become a cultural phenomenon.

As the program's following grows, Netflix has begun providing behind-the-scenes details and exposing how the show came to life — and the special effects sorcery that went into filming The Thing scenes is hard to believe.

The Thing, a living dismembered hand who has been a part of the Addams Family cartoon since the 1930s, plays a significant role in Tim Burton's series.

When Wednesday is sent to Nevermore Academy, her father Gomez orders the Thing to keep an eye on her. However, Wednesday, who swiftly catches her "spy," draws Thing into her investigations, and the two become a true investigative pair.

- I love so many aspects of "Wednesday," but I particularly adore the Thing, so much so that I wear this small-cap - commented one fan on Twitter, while others referred to him as "the sweetest character" and "the star" of the entire series.

And why not, given the gorgeous behind-the-scenes images? These images show that the Thing, which many assumed was purely CGI animation, was really played by a real actor named Victor, who is also a magician.

All of the sequences were shot with Victor and the lead actress, Jenna Ortega, and Victor mostly donned a blue bodysuit, which was essential for the special effects portions. His arm is the only part of his body that is visible. But most of the time, he had to ride on a cart, kneel behind Jenna, or strike rather awkward poses for the camera.

Victor's fans like him not only for his discomfort but also for his ability to convey so much passion in his role. With only a fist, so much has been spoken.

It's a really difficult process because you have to show emotion with a hand that doesn't have voice or subtitles," Victor told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month.

The second season of the Wednesday series is coming

On November 23, the eight-episode first season centering on Wednesday Adams premiered. Shortly after, Netflix revealed that the series has broken the platform record for hours seen for an English-language series in its first week, with over 341 million hours.

With almost 1.2 billion hours seen in its first 28 days, the series has grown to become the second most-watched English-language television series on Netflix.

Jenna Ortega told Entertainment Tonight that she expects to see Wednesday Addams reach her full potential in season two, allowing her to dig further into her goth roots.

"We felt like we really only scratched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles," Millar explained to TV Line, adding that it would be interesting to see their further development.

"The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is also important to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to make her own way outside of the family is important," he added.
