4 TRICKS TO LIGHT UP A DARK BEDROOM

Light interferes with the production of melatonin in the brain, the hormone responsible for regulating the sleep cycle. But what if your bedroom is dark even during the day? This is a common problem, especially if you have firmly decided to paint your rest area in a darker shade. But in addition to darker shades, there are some other causes that lead to the bedroom getting the appearance of a cave and not a space for relaxation and sleep: few windows, windows facing north, windows shaded by outside trees or structures.

These are all items that cannot be easily fixed without major remodeling. But don't despair, you're not doomed to live in a bedroom that looks like a matchbox, nor do you have to blow your entire budget and hire a professional. Dark bedroom ideas are simple decorating tricks that can bring light to even the darkest bedroom.

BRING IN ADDITIONAL LIGHT

If your bedroom does not get enough natural light, then you will have to provide it yourself. But don't put one lamp on your nightstand and think you're done. A single light source creates a lot of shadows, especially in black or dark blue rooms, so they get an almost eerie feeling. Instead, light your room with at least two and preferably three light sources.

CHOOSE WALL COLOR WISELY

It seems illogical, but if your bedroom is dark, white walls are not the best solution. Although light colors can help make a small room look bigger, they are not so good at making a dark room brighter. Instead of classic white, choose a richly saturated mid-tone color for your walls. Cool, deep shades of green, blue, gray or even purple are best for creating the relaxing atmosphere you want in your bedroom.

THE MIRRORS HAVE A DOUBLE FUNCTION

A large mirror in the bedroom is essential regardless of the light level. In a bedroom with little light, however, a mirror also works to reflect any light that is there, while also adding brightness to the space. If possible, hang your mirror across from the window to bring more light into the room.

TRANSPARENT CURTAINS AND CONTRASTING BEDDING

A darkened bedroom is no place for heavy draperies or heavy blinds that block the little natural light that might otherwise reach the room. Instead, use transparent curtains or venetian blinds that you can adjust as you wish.
