50 Years Of Years Of Love: Camilla And Charles
Prince Charles, the future king of Great Britain, and his future queen Camilla have been waiting for half a century to feel that the royal family accepts them as a couple. Why did it take almost a decade to explain to them that Camilla is the only woman he can be happy with? What bothered the Queen so much about Camila?
In the middle of 1971, Andrew Parker Bowles began seeing Princess Anne, the younger sister of Prince Charles. A few months earlier, he broke up with Camille Shand, the daughter of a former British Army officer and successful businessman, Major Bruce Shand, and Rosalind Shand , the daughter of Baron Eshcombe.
Camila was a student of French literature. She moved in the same circles as her ex-boyfriend, and in which were Prince Charles and Princess Anne. They often met at social events, but they formally met in mid – 1971, where they were introduced to each other by mutual friend Lucia Santa Cruz, at their home. Ther quickly become close friends.
It was never fully revealed how and when love happened, but from the very beginning, it was clear that something is happening. That is why many were surprised by the reconciliation of Camilla and Andrew Parker Bowles and their engagement in 1973. Rumors say that the couple's parents sent the news of the engagement to The Times, and after that couple had no choice.
This happened on July 4, 1873, with a Roman Catholic ceremony in London. Camila and Andrew had two children. During the '80s, the couple got divorced and in 1994 they formally signed divorce papers.
The public secret was that Camila's heart only belonged to Prince Charles and that his only belonged to Camila, although he was married to Princess Diana. Diana was one of the most famous and beloved women on the planet.
The first breakup of this couple allegedly happened because they met too early and Camila didn't want to wait for Charles to return from the military. No one in the royal family wanted the future king to marry the girl he loved.
Why didn't the royal family accept Camilla? There are many reasons. Lord Mountbatten wrote a letter to Charles about Camila: „I think it is disturbing that women have experience if they want to stay on a pedestal after getting married.“
One of the reasons Camilla was unacceptable to Crown is that, before Charles fell for her charm, she had several love affairs. Camila was considered too ordinary because she did not come from an aristocratic family.
While they were married, Charles and Camilla have seeing each other. The queen wanted Camilla to disappear Evan before Diana's death.
Finally, on April 9, 2005, in the Chapel of St. George in Windsor Castle, after so many decades of waiting and longing, Prince Charles and Camilla got married. Their parents did not attend the wedding.
Now, when Queen Elizabeth II, the mother of Prince Charles, is approaching the end of her life she had to accept Camilla.
In her message to the British, published in early February 2022, the Queen said that her sincere wish is for Camilla to become a Consort Queen when Charles becomes King.
The royal couple was touched and honored by the Queen's words.
