A romantic thriller about forbidden lust
'Both sides of the blade'...
BOTH SIDES OF THE BLADE, directed by Claire Denis, is now in theaters!
Silver Bear Award winner in Berlin for Best Director, featuring Oscar winners Juliette Binoche and Vincent Lindon!
Juliette Binoche and Vincent Lindon are two of France's most prominent performers from the last three decades. Lindon was named best actor at the Cannes Film Festival, and Binoche has been the owner of the famous Oscar since 1996, which she, somewhat shockingly, earned for her superb performance in the film "The English Patient ".
From that vantage point, it seemed surreal that these two great actors only performed together in one picture this year. It's about Claire Denis's romantic thriller BOTH SIDES OF THE BLADE, which will be released in domestic theaters on Thursday, January 5.
It's a love triangle narrative about a woman caught between two men whose lives are spiraling out of hand. It's already winter in Paris. Sarah and Jean have fallen in love. They've been living together for a long time. Their love is strong and makes them joyful. There is mutual trust and an unwavering desire. But one fateful morning, Sarah meets François, who introduces her to Jean. And then, without hesitation, she left François because of Jean...
In addition to Binoche and Lindon, the film's primary character, François, is played by the young French actor Grégoire Colin, and Hana Magimel, the real-life daughter of Juliette Binoche, makes her acting debut. In addition to them, Lilian Thuram, a famous former French football player who plays himself in the film, has a tiny role. One of the most intriguing aspects of the film is that it was developed as a result of the quarantine imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic that hit France in 2020.
The plot was written during this period by screenwriter (and director) Claire Denis and co-screenwriter Christine Angot, whose novel the film is based on, and the film was also shot during the "lockdown," therefore the characters or actors are wearing protection masks in some exterior sequences.
The romantic thriller BOTH SIDES OF THE BLADE has over 85% good ratings on the popular website RottenTomatoes, which aggregates film reviews from around the world, emphasizing what a wonderful work it is and a picture that should not be missed under any circumstances.
