Brad Pitt has a new $40 million house

Hollywood star Brad Pitt has bought a property again. This time he shelled out $40 million for DL James' historic home, known as 'Seaward', which overlooks the stunning California coastline. The property is considered the most expensive ever sold in the area. Locals are delighted to have another famous person in their area, especially after the iconic property has been vacant for years.

Pitt is a big fan of old-fashioned homes, which could be why he bought this 1918 property. Known as DL James, the estate was designed by 20th-century architect Charles Sumner Greene. He designed it on land owned by the notorious writer Daniel Lewis James, who wrote 'Famous All Over Town'.

Since 1999, it has been owned by Searock, a limited liability company associated with the late Chicago financier Joe Ritchie and his wife Sharon Ritchie. Richie died earlier this year, and the property has never been publicly listed for sale.

The luxury property, which is only a few meters from the beach, has a wooden aesthetic and is built from locally quarried stone and granite. It has brick arched windows, personally chosen by Charles Greene, and a Mediterranean-style tiled roof.

Photographer Alexander Vertikoff took exclusive photos of the estate in 1997.

When I photographed it, the whole thing had been uninhabited for a while. For 50 years it was in a state of completion, it was difficult to tell which rooms it had. Some of the views from the property probably don't exist anymore, the grass and greenery had grown so you couldn't see the side of the house. It's not that big of a property, but it's very private, you can't just walk in," he told the Daily Mail.

Let's recall that Angelina Jolie won the legal battle against her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, in their war over the Chateau Miraval winery where they got married in 2014. In the latest in a series of skirmishes, her team requested documents from Pitt, his business manager, and his company, Mondo Bongo. Pitt's team fought hard to deny her request for documents and correspondence. A judge in Los Angeles said Pitt and his partners must turn them over to the opposing party and ruled they can't even wait until they appeal the decision.
