Four New Speakers from Scansonic

Scansonic increases its "M" and "L" series: in addition to a floor-standing and a compact speaker, the Danish firm now offers two on-wall speakers.

Three of Scansonic's four new speakers are from the "L" series, and so share several characteristics: The new "L On-wall" wall-mounted speakers, "L 7" stand mount speakers, and "L 14" floor standing speakers, for example, all have a 25mm silk dome tweeter.

The on-wall speakers are designed to be mounted directly on a wall, as the name implies; to best fit this use, they feature a depth of only 10 cm and a bass reflex port on the front, which is accompanied by a Kevlar woofer/midrange driver.

The other two new L-series speakers each include one ("L 7") or two ("L 14") bass/midrange drivers with unique paper cones in a sandwich design. Furthermore, the new model's speaker cabinets are believed to be exceptionally resistant to resonance due to bracings and increased wall thickness.

Scansonic's "M" series is also getting a new addition: the "M Onwall" wall-mounted speaker, which is designed as a multipurpose speaker and is stated to be ideally suited for home theater as well as stereo and 2.1 listenings.

It features a ribbon tweeter constructed of kapton and aluminum, as well as a 4.5" woofer with a honeycomb reinforced glass-fiber cone and a downward-firing bass reflex port.

Scansonic's four new speakers are supposed to be available immediately. The "L On-wall," the smallest new type, will cost $450 per pair in black, white, or walnut finishes, while the "M On-wall," available in black or white, will cost $825. Both the stand-mounted "L 7" and floor standing "L 14" speakers are available in black, white, or walnut, and cost $690 and $1690*, respectively.
