FX's adaptation "Kindred" arrives this month!

FX's genre series "Kindred" arrives on December 13 with all eight episodes of the first season. It is an adaptation of the influential novel of the same name by the author Octavia E. Butler. Showrunner, screenwriter and executive producer of the series is Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. Other executive producers include Joe Weisberg (The Patient), Joel Fields (Gone in the Night), Darren Aronofsky (The Whale), Ari Handel (Mother), Courtney Lee-Mitchell, Jules Jackson and Ernestine Walker. Also, the opportunity to direct one episode each had Janicza Bravo (Them) and Alonso Alvarez (American Horror Stories).

The focus of the story is Dana, a young black-skinned ambitious writer who threw family responsibilities out of her life and moved to Los Angeles, ready to step into a future. But before she can settle into her new home, she finds herself forcibly pulled back and forth through time to a nineteenth-century plantation with which she and her family have a surprisingly close bond. An interracial romance weaves through her past and present, and the clock is ticking as she struggles to face secrets she never knew existed.

The adaptation slowed down the plot and devoted more time to certain story points instead of covering the entire book in the first season. The series will explore certain characters and places with more details than was the case in the book. One of the changes compared to the template is that we will meet Dana and Kevin much earlier in their relationship, so the series also allows us to explore their relationship more deeply.

The main stars are Mallori Johnson (WeCrashed), Micah Stock (The Right Stuff), Ryan Kwanten (Glorious), Gayle Rankin (GLOW), Austin Smith (Russian Doll), David Alexander Kapla (Stranger Things), Sophina Brown (The Orville) and Sheria Irving (A Luv Tale: The Series).
