Santa Monica Studio took a big gamble with God of War in 2018, making significant alterations to the formula that was first published on PlayStation 2 in 2005.

The game slowed down and gave Kratos' psyche more complexity, whose reasons in the Greek line of the story were excessively focused on vengeance. However, the film did pretty well, so a sequel was nearly an inevitability unless the company felt it was impossible to match the quality of the first installment in the Nordic nations (many point out that this is the reason why Half-Life 3 does not exist).

God of War Ragnarök was supposed to be released in 2021, but it was postponed because Santa Monica Studio wanted to provide "a game of the highest quality while protecting safety and well-being." The developer must be capable of cutting the pressure she feels with a knife, because it is not only about launching a sequel to a game, but also about achieving unrealistic expectations.

Sony has officially stated that God of War Ragnarök will be published on November 9, 2022, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, but given the high expectations, it would be prudent to be careful and not be surprised if the release date is pushed back again.

For the time being, there is no official word on a PC version, but given the positive feedback that the original game's port has had and continues to receive, which also works extremely well on the Steam Deck, Sony is likely to announce one in the near future.

Sony will release God of War Ragnarök Deluxe, Collector's Edition, and Jötnar Edition (Jötnar Edition) editions featuring additional features and material. Purchasing any of the editions is dependent on how much of a God of War fan you are, as most of them will just be concerned with the game itself and that it is in excellent enough shape to play.
