Australian musician Nick Cave has already become a legend thanks to his music, and this popular singer, songwriter, and occasional actor has a really interesting career behind him, which has often been accompanied by tragedies from his private life. These days he celebrated his 64th birthday, on the occasion of which we recalled details from his life.

Cave was born in rural Victoria, Australia, and studied art in Melbourne before becoming a member of the band The Birthday Party. It was this band that was once one of the most popular post-punk bands in Melbourne in the late '70s and was a great springboard for Nick's career.

The band moved to London in the 80s, but because of the way of life they led there, they changed their sound and helped inspire the gothic rock genre. They were followed by the nickname "the most violent live band in the world". Already at that time, Cave became known for his striking appearance, and his long black hair and pale face have remained his trademark to this day. Two years after they went to London, the band decided to move to Berlin but they broke up there. A year later, Cave formed the band Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, which is still active today.

In the 1990s, Cave often moved between Sao Paulo and England, and at that time he found inspiration for his songs in the Bible, specifically the New Testament. His performances became calmer, and at that time he won over his fans with ballads. A strong baritone and an irreplaceable way of performing marked his career, which is why Cave is one of the world's most respected musicians today.

He also led an interesting private life. He dated Anita Lane from the late 70s to the early 80s, and together they recorded music on several occasions. The most recognizable covers they recorded together are certainly Bob Dylan’s “Death Is Not The End” and Jane Birkin’s “Je t’aime ... moi non plus”. They broke up after Cave moved to Sao Paulo, and it was there that he met his first wife, Brazilian journalist Viviane Carneiro. The couple had their first son, Luke, in 1991, and they were together for six years before filing for divorce. He got his second son Jethra Nick with Beau Lazenby also in 1991. Jethro grew up with his mother in Melbourne, Australia, and met his father only when he was seven years old.

In the mid-90s, the famous musician also dated his colleague PJ Harvey, but their relationship did not last long. He met British model Susie Bick in 1997, and it was she who posed for the cover of his album "Push the Sky Away". She gave up her career when they got married in 1999. They had two children, twins Arthur and Earl, a year later, and lived with them in Brighton, England.

A great tragedy struck their family when Arthur was 15 years old. The boy fell off a cliff in July 2015 in the village of Ovingdean near Brighton and remained dead on the spot. Cave's family issued a statement after the terrible accident in which they asked everyone for privacy. The emotions he went through after the loss of his son Nick Cave showed in the documentary "One More Time with Feeling", and he also sang about Arthur's death on his two albums, "Skeleton Tree" and "Ghosteen".

Nick Cave never hid his belief in God, and Christian motives are the inspiration for many of his works. Yet he is a fierce opponent of organized religion, which he has repeatedly emphasized.
