Pop star Justin Bieber and rapper Megan Thee Stallion have won the most nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards this year, organizers announced on Wednesday, exactly a month before the ceremony, which will take place in front of the audience again next month.
Canadian singer Justin Bieber has seven nominations, including one for Artist of the Year, for Best Pop Song, and Video of the Year for “Popstar,” a collaboration with DJ Khaled and Drake.
The strongest competition in the category of artists is Megan Thee Stallion, who has six nominations, including one for the video with rapper Cardi B.
Other candidates for Best Artist of the Year are Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift.
Among the nominated music videos are "Kiss Me More" by Doja Cat, "Bad Habits" by Ed Sheeran, "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" by Lil Nas X, and The Weeknd's "Save Your Tears".
Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X, and first-time nominee Olivia Rodrigo have five nominations each.
Last year, MTV’s video music awards ceremony was held without an audience in the hall, and most of the performances were recorded in advance due to health guidelines passed for the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s ceremony will be held on Sept. 12 at the Barclays Center in New York City. Winners are chosen by fans who can vote online.
