Matrix is back-unfortunately

It's been 18 years since we saw the last ultimate virtual reality movie that launched Keanu Reeves to stardom and inspired the whole world

The long-awaited new chapter of the groundbreaking franchise reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity, under the direction of multi-award-winning director Lana Wachowski.

With its complex work, largely inspired by philosophy, Matrix forced viewers to participate in the film of a different kind – to reflect on personal things, identity, existence, and moral issues that have never been as topical as they are today, in the time in which we live.

Following the release of Revolutionsthe Wachowskis denied the possibility of another Matrix film, though rumors emerged since then about a possible fourth Matrix film and the studio constantly expressed interest in reviving the franchise, hiring Zak Penn to write a new screenplay after the Wachowskis refused every offer to create more sequels. In late 2019, a fourth Matrix film was finally announced, with Lana Wachowski returning as a director without her sister and Reeves and Moss reprising their roles.

In the new story, Neo and Trinity are seemingly alive and well, but their minds are locked inside the "matrix", which has become more dangerous. They don't remember their past. But Neo's hunted by his past, because in his dreams he sees flashes of what's happened in previous movies, in what he thinks is everyday life...

To find out what is really real, he will once again have to choose between the red pill and the blue pill. He will have to choose to leave his current life and his whole sense of reality behind.

In translation, he will have to decide once again to travel to the "matrix".

MATRIX: RESURRECTION is full of hidden messages and performances (some of which are just faces in the crowd) that include: visual effects pioneer from the first "Matrix" film – Oscar winner John Gaeta, visual effects expert in "Reloaded" and "Revolutions" sequels – Oscar nominee Kim Libreri, San Francisco London Mayor Breed and actor Tom Hardy.

The new film reunites the original stars. Keanu Reeves is in the role of Neo, while Carrie-Anne Moss is in the role of Trinity. They are joined in other roles by a stellar cast: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The official synopsis of the said movie on IMDB reads:

Return to a world of two realities: one, everyday life; the other, what lies behind it. To find out if his reality is a construct, to truly know himself, Mr. Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more.

The movie premiered on 16th December and had a simultaneous release on HBO MAX, which is why a pirated version appeared on the Internet almost immediately. However, despite the hype and the anticipation, the movie failed. Horrendously. The critics hated it, the audience hated it, everyone hated it.
