Matthew Perry: 'It seemed like I had it all, and in fact I was very lonely and suffering from alcoholism'

Matthew Perry, 52, is writing an autobiography that will talk about the part of his life he spent filming the Friends series. Perry, who played many people's favorite character, the cynical Chandler Bing, promises to take readers "behind the scenes", and the American media write that he will receive a seven-figure fee for his work.

From the publishing house Macmillan's Flatiron Books, which received the world's rights to the book, they say that it will be a book that "Fans of Friends have been waiting for a long time". Given that the actor will talk about addiction problems, the book will also, they say, be important to anyone who is waging similar personal battles, for themselves or loved ones.
"We need humor, we need catharsis, and we need Matthew's exceptional story told by his voice," said Megan Lynch, a spokeswoman for the publisher.

The reunion of the super-popular sitcom team in May this year once again sparked numerous stories about Perry’s health, alcohol and drug problems, and even rumors that the actor never managed to escape the jaws of addiction. It was written that he was incoherent during the filming, a real war was being waged on social networks between those horrified by his downfall and those who demanded that the actor be left alone.

- I was in Friends from the age of 24 to 34 ... The six of us were everywhere. From the outside, it could have seemed like I had everything, but in fact, I was very lonely because I was suffering from alcoholism - he said on one occasion, and in another interview explained that he never came to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- I would be terribly hungover, to the point of pain, but I worked. But over time, things got so bad that I couldn’t hide it anymore and everyone knew it. - said Perry and admitted that he doesn't really remember about three years, between the third and sixth season of the series.

Now he will tell all that, in detail and openly, in a book. He doesn’t have to worry about readers, the series’ audience of millions can hardly wait for it.
