New on Netflix: " All the Light We Cannot See "

The four-part series "All The Light We Cannot See", the adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Anthony Doerr, arrived on Netflix on November 2 . Believe it or not,  American writer Anthony Doerr needed ten years to complete the novel All the Light We Cannot See.

However, he certainly does not regret them, because the aforementioned title earned him the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. Years of writing have resulted in complex prose that can be read in multiple ways: as a novel about growing up, as a novel about the search for goodness in unkind times, as a novel about courage, and as a novel about sacrifice.

A four-part series plot

The plot follows a French girl and a German boy in occupied France. Due to the arrival of the Nazis, the blind Marie-Laure flees with her father from Paris to Saint-Malo, where the orphan Werner appears. He was talented in technology, which secured him a place in the brutal Hitler Youth.

After the first frames from the miniseries reached social networks, fans did not hide their excitement about the new project. They characterized the literary template as one of the best books they had ever read and expressed their wish that the quality of the screen adaptation follow the quality of the original. However, upon publication, the series sharply divided both critics and audiences. Dissatisfaction was first expressed by fans of the literary model, who rated the screen version as disappointing. "What is the purpose of turning the book into a TV series if they decided to discard what was written?"  they ask.

On the other hand, those who have not read the novel, and do not compare the two titles, share a mostly positive opinion about the series. They pointed out that it brings an honest story, which in these times is a great reminder of what humanity is capable of when faced with evil, relying on hope and love.

Anthony Doerr (1973, Cleveland) won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Literature for The Light We Cannot See. The novel was published in 29 countries and sold more than 1.5 million copies.
