The action takes place 100 years in the future when missions to colonize other planets have begun to ensure the human race's survival. The first of these missions aboard on the spacecraft, known as Ark One, encounters a catastrophic event that causes great destruction and loss of life. With more than a year before they reach their target planet, they spent life support supplies and because of that, the remaining crew must become the best version of themselves in order to stay on course and survive.

The cast includes Christie Burke as Petty Officer Sharon Garnet, Richard Fleeshman as James Brice - head of the ship's navigation system, Reece Ritchie as Lieutenant Spencer Lane, who believes only the strong should survive. There are also Stacey Read as Alicia Nevins, from the waste management team, Ryan Adams as Angus Medford, Christina Wolfe as manipulative psychologist Cat Brandice, Shalini Peiris as Dr. Sanjivni Kabir, the ship's chief physician, Miles Barrow as Ensign Baylor Trent, Pavle Jerinić as security commander Felix Strickland, Tiana Upcheva as Eva Markovic, the ship's maintenance, engineering and life support system manager, and Lisa Brenner as Commander Susan Ingram.

American cable channel "Syfy", which ordered the series, confirmed that the first season will have 12 episodes. The Syfy channel expects the series to be very popular, just like in the case of their recent series such as "Homemade Alien" and "Chucky".
