While both were students at the University of St. Andrews, Prince William and Kate Middleton began dating in 2003. It is generally known that they initially hung out for a long time, socialized in the same circles, and that the second in line to the British throne first took notice of Kate when he saw her walking the catwalk at a charity fashion show during her studies.
It was previously known that they had broken up for a short time, and the media at the time linked William to a number of famous beauties, including one of his ex-girlfriends. Jessica Craig, better known in England as Jack, is a well-known environmental activist and doctorate student at the prestigious University College London.
Prince William is said to have met Jack in Kenya in 2000 while visiting at the Craig family property.
They supposedly spent a lot of time together there and even had a fake engagement. The pair got along pretty smoothly and had a lovely time exploring Africa together, but when he returned to his studies, their paths diverged. After a while, William met Kate Middleton, but that didn't mean his connection with Jack was over - the local press said that the prince and his ex went to weddings together, and that the prince travelled to Kenya and spent time with Jack even when he was seeing Kate!
Not only that, but at a time when William was attempting to keep his connection with Kate hidden from the public eye, he entirely ignored his fiancée during his 21st birthday celebration and spent the whole time chatting with Jack, who had come from Kenya for the occasion.
According to royal writer Christopher Andersen's book "Brothers and Wives: Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Megan," Kate Middleton was continually angry with her husband and "felt frightened and humiliated." Years passed, and the prince continued to meet his ex-girlfriend, prompting the future duchess to give an ultimatum, which he did not take seriously, according to this biographer: either Jack or she.
Prince William was the most desirable man in the world at the time, and he was not ready to give up adventure, travel, and entertainment at such a young age, nor was he the tranquil family guy as we know. Kate has been waiting for her engagement ring for years, and many in the United Kingdom have mocked her for it because she has been waiting for William for a certain amount of time.
Andersen says that Prince Harry "warned his stubborn brother that he must pay attention to how Kate feels" since he did not want to settle down next to Kate. It's no secret that Kate Middleton and Prince Harry have always had a strong connection and treated each other like family, so it's no surprise that Harry sought to persuade William to modify his behaviors.
Just like Prince Charles and Camille during his entire marriage to Princess Diana, William did not want to give up Jackie. According to this book, even Charles, William's father, intervened, because he himself experienced life in a love triangle, but he did not think so much about Kate Middleton.
- You can't expose her to this, William. That is not fair to Jackie - Charles allegedly told his son.
It was rumored that Jack was the reason for Kate and William's breakup in 2007, but in the end he still chose Kate.
The rest is history: the pair married in 2011 in a beautiful wedding broadcast across the globe, and they now have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Since 2016, Jack has been married to Jonathan Bailey, a Canadian professor, with whom she has two children.
