The Banshees of Inisherin: Colin Farrell in a dark comedy

A dark comedy, at the same time a drama from the Searchlight film company, the Irish coast, the beginning of the twentieth century, two friends and a friendship that has come to an end - it's the new film by director Martin McDonagh "The Banshees of Inisherin", which will have its world premiere on September 5 at this year's 79th Venice Film Festival.

The story is set on the west coast of Ireland and follows two longtime friends Padraic (Colin Farrell) and Colm (Brendan Gleeson) who find themselves at an impasse after Colm suddenly decides to end their friendship.

With the help of his sister Siobhan (Kerry Condon) and his friend Dominic (Barry Keoghan), who is the son of a local police officer, the confused and desperate Padraic tries to recover a friendship that has been trapped and lost in the small and isolated island community. But when Colm issues an ultimatum, events begin to escalate to unimagined heights.

Director Martin McDonagh, who is known for his work "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" (for which he won the Bafta Award for Best Picture and Screenplay, and the lead actress Frances McDormand won the Academy Award for Best Actress), repeated the main male roles that proved to be very successful in his film "In Bruges" - and Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson contributed credibility to this Irish drama with elements of comedy with their completely opposite characters.

Colin Farrell is known to the audience for his roles in films that mesmerize with their strangeness, directed by George Lanthimos, such as "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" and "The Lobster".

That he doesn't like to deviate much from the proven cast, McDonagh showed by casting Kerry Condon as the only sane inhabitant of Shivon, the fictional Irish island of Inisherin, while one of the many "ghosts" of the island is the young Irish actor Barry Keoghan.
