The Smart # 1 is an electric SUV
The electric SUV Smart # 1 is still small, but it no longer belongs to the category of smaller automobiles for which the Smart brand has always been recognized. It is now a full-fledged city automobile for four persons.
The model of the new Smart city electric multipurpose car was introduced during the last edition of the IAA Mobility fair in Munich, and it received its formal premiere this week in Berlin.
It is the brand's largest vehicle to date, and it distinguishes itself with a completely unique design, huge cabin, various modern touches, and digital capabilities.
The new Smart # 1 is as long as 4,270 mm, has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, and the wheels can be as large as 19 ′′ in diameter - making it no longer a small that you won't notice on the road or that will mistakenly take up parking space.
Smart # 1 has a fully digitalized interior, as do many new versions on the market today, and its functions are managed via a smartphone app. With software "over-the-air" upgrades, this vehicle will gain additional features.
The idea of borrowing, i.e. sharing this car, is very appealing: if you want to lend your Smart to someone, you may do so quickly - by transferring your digital key via your cell phone.
The cabin's spaciousness is accentuated not only by the fact that this Smart features a full-size rear bench but also by glass surfaces that provide a 360-degree perspective. There is also a panoramic roof with interactive ambient lighting that can be customized to your preferences for color and intensity.
The powertrain includes a 272 horsepower electric motor with 343 Nm of torque and a top speed of 180 km/h. When it comes to batteries, they have a capacity of 66 kWh and the ability to charge quickly (from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes).
As a result, the new Smart # 1 SUV will have a range of up to 440 kilometers according to the WLTP test.
According to the business, the vehicle is presently being homologated for EU markets and should be completed in the second half of this year. There are no dates set for the start of the sale.
