What is the 'J.Lo effect'?

In 2010, Jennifer Lopez asked the media house for $ 12 million to replace Simon Cowell in American Idol as a member of the jury. Soon others followed her example, so the megastars came in place of the former celebrities from the C-list, for multimillion-dollar fees, of course. In addition to the change in the current account balance, they could also notice an increase in the popularity and sales of the album. That’s what The Hollywood Reporter journalist called the ‘J.Lo effect’.

Then the 41-year-old singer and actress, who according to all established stereotypes and expectations for women in the world of show business should be at the end of her career in the 5th decade of her life, experienced a new rise. She booked a lucrative residence in Las Vegas, danced around a bar in the movie ‘Hustlers’ in her fifties, performed at the Super Bowl, signed a contract with Netflix … J.Lo redefined the perception of women over fifty.

But that’s nothing new - she debuted with the album ‘On the 6’ as a 30-year-old and introduced some new standards of beauty. Instead of the then-popular 'heroin chic',  JLo's round butt (literally and figuratively) took the throne.

It could be noticed that whatever J.Lo does defies some established perceptions of how things work, despite being criticized for decades for not looking like others, challenging her singing and acting talents, love choices… Lately, the term ‘JLo effect' has begun to apply to her private life as well - so many now perceive Ben Affleck as more attractive than in the last decade or so - just because he's dating Jennifer Lopez again.

Whatever she does, J.Lo radiates self-confidence, and thanks to that she succeeds in everything she has planned, and instead of being forgotten and neglected when she reaches a certain age, she uses her talents, but also the gained experience to go even further - and pull others along.

Self-confidence is a state of mind that we must practice on a daily basis, develop our own routine with which to 'pump' self-confidence, and remind ourselves of our own values. And when we are discouraged at some point, we should stop and ask ourselves - what would J.Lo do?
