How the song "Insomnia", Faithless' biggest hit, came about

Some details from the song were from the real life of Faithless singer Maxie Jazz

We received sad news a few days ago when it was confirmed that Maxi Jazz, the singer of Faithless, had died.

"He gave the real meaning and message to our music. He was a dear human being, there was time for everyone and wisdom that was both deep and accessible," said the famous British band.

"Insomnia" was one of the group Faithless' biggest hits, if not the biggest. Maxi Jazz once stated in an interview that MTV requested that some of the song's lyrics be modified.

"That initial sentence, "Deep in the bosom of the sweet night," is not a Dylan Thomas quote. MTV forced it on us because they thought the original first line, "I only smoke pot when I need to," was too graphic.

There were also debates about the lyrics: "Making passionate love to my girl on the heath / Tearing off tights with my teeth," but they stayed "He previously told The Guardian.

The radio version was recorded with the altered wording, but there is also a longer version that begins with the original text regarding marijuana smoking.

"The lyrics are from personal experience. I didn't suffer from insomnia, I just had an abscess on my tooth. It was so painful that it kept me awake.

The lyrics about no electricity and reaching for a pencil in the dark were also from real life. Often the electricity went out, so I wrote by candlelight," Maxi Jazz said.
