Hugh Jackman: "I did not take steroids"

Hugh Jackman is known for "packing on" pounds and pounds of muscle for the role of Wolverine in the various films of the "X-Men" franchise. Namely, during a recent interview with Chris Wallace on HBO's "Who's Talking to Chris Wallace" he said that he never consumed steroids to transform himself into a famous comic book character.

Host Wallace noted that there have been rumors for years that Hugh Jackman took steroids to look like Wolverine, but Jackman denied all the stories. "No, I love my job. And I love Wolverine" Jackman said. "I have to be careful what I say here, but they told me what the side effects of taking steroids are and I said that I don't like work that much anyway. I did it the old-school way. And yes, I ate more chicken " Jackman added.

Also, Jackman admitted that he mistakenly studied wolves after accepting the role ahead of 2000's "X-Men."

"I've never read comics," Jackman admitted. "I got the role, but I didn't really know anything about Wolverine. I didn't know it was actually a real animal, I thought it was made up with those steel claws and all. During the Imax rehearsal, I noticed that they had a documentary on wolves. It seemed perfect for the development of the character because I also thought that Wolverine was a wolf ." Jackman added and revealed that, to the surprise of the director and the film crew, he began to move like a wolf on the set. After several attempts, with the help of the director, he realized that Wolverine is not a wolf after all.

Hugh Jackman first played Wolverine in X-Men in 2000 and then repeated the role in subsequent sequels and three solo films centered on the most popular X-Men.

Jackson will reprise his role as Wolverine in Marvel's upcoming "Deadpool 3." Production is expected to begin in the spring after Jackman wraps up "The Music Man" on Broadway.
