Barker, 49, is facing charges for a felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
Sara Evans filed for divorce from Jay Barker months ago. The singer filed a complaint seeking divorce on Aug. 23, 2021. Her reasons were irreconcilable problems between the two and her husbands' unacceptable marital conduct.
Barker has been charged with felony domestic assault.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office website, the ex-Alabama quarterback, 49, was brought to a Nashville county jail on Saturday morning.
His full name is Harry Jerome Barker, according to his jail booking report. He was admitted shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday and released about 7:30 p.m., according to jail records. Because it was a domestic violence case, the football player was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and given a $10,000 bond with a 12-hour hold. After posting bond, he was freed late Saturday night.
The people in the vehicle were leaving a party at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to documents filed with Metro Nashville General Sessions Court. Barker allegedly reversed his vehicle "at a high rate of speed attempting to hit them, but missed," as Evans and another individual parked into the driveway of a nearby residence.
The occupants of the car called police after Barker drove away from the building, according to the affidavit.
Later, Barker drove by the house and the police caught up with him.
According to the Tennessean, passengers and witnesses told police that Barker "deliberately" tried to hit them with the car.
Barker issued a statement on his radio show's Instagram account on Sunday, requesting privacy "for the sake of " his " family and especially his kids."
"Unfortunately, headlines and quick-to-publish news stories do not adequately capture the full context and complex fabric of our lives," the post added.
In March this year, Barker is set to appear in court.
The pair have been married for 12 years, while court records show that Barker has been actually living in Homewood, Alabama, for the previous three months.
The soon to be ex-couple does not have any kids together.
In May 2020, the 50-year-old "Born to Fly" singer released her latest album, "Copy That."
Barker led Alabama to college football's national championship in 1992, defeating the Miami Hurricanes 34–13 in the Sugar Bowl. The Green Bay Packers selected him in the fifth round of the 1995 NFL Draft, although he never played in an NFL game.
Barker is now a radio show host. Tide1009 airs on Tuscaloosa's flagship station, 100.9 FM. On the show,Jay Barker is joined by Lars Anderson and Trent Richardson to discuss Alabama sports and other topics. He previously hosted a morning sports talk radio show on WJOX in Birmingham with Al Del Greco and Tony Kurre.
