New comedy heaven in sight! 'Grand Plans' starting to unravel
Pete Davidson bought Staten Island Ferry Boat with Colin Jost and Paul Italia.
Pete Davidson and Colin Jost, along with comedy club owner Paul Italia, auctioned a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry.
They are returning to their Staten Island roots.
Both comedians, born and raised Newyorkers purchased the John F. Kennedy with The Stand comedy club owner. They say some "grand plans" are in store for the boat.
The Stand comedy club owner said in for the Post:
"The idea is to turn the space into a live entertainment event space, with comedy, music, art, et cetera,"
Italia added: "We're in the early stages, but everybody involved had the same ambition — not to see this thing go to the scrapyard."
The Saturday Night Live comedians grabbed the boat for $280,000 at a recent auction.
In the Weekend Update segment on Saturday Night Live, Pete joked about the Ferry he and Colin Jost purchased.
"Even the mayor is tweeting about it! That is how I found we have a new...mayor!", Pete said
Jost, 39, steering the Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update. Alex Moffat was there to play his 'Guy Who Just Bought a Boat' character.
During Moffat's skit, Jost then invited Davidson to join them. He introduced him as 'Guy Who Just Bought a Ferry' — a clear reference to their boat, John F. Kennedy
"Hey! We bought a ferry, the windowless van of the sea," Davidson said, as Jost sarcastically added, "Yes, it's very exciting. We thought the whole thing through."
Davidson also explained that he and Jost won the auction together with a third partner, "Pauley Italia," which Davidson joked is "the name of a real person and not a mafia-themed wrestler."
"We're boat people now, Colin," he added, teasing Jost, "I mean, you always were. You look like, you know, you own the yacht they rent out for rap videos."
According to New York 1, this ferry first went into service in 1965. It was the oldest one on the Staten Island fleet. The boat was decommissioned and docked last summer because of mechanical problems. But, the JFK, a 300-foot boat can still hold more than 3,000 passengers. We can only imagine what the comedy gold trio will make out of the iconic vessel. For now, Italy plans to store John F. Kennedy at a local shipyard until he finds a permanent home for the project.
Davidson is dating Kim Kardashian for the past few months. The couple had a romantic diner in the Staten Island area in November, and movie night in December.
Pete and Colin often refer to the area in his comedy, creating SNL shorts. They often make jokes about Staten Island and the 2019 feature film The King of Staten Island.
