A brutal British crime series: "Happy Valley"

If you want a quality audiovisual activity that will help you shorten these cold winter days and freezing nights, then "Happy Valley" - an unexpectedly popular and multiple award-winning (as many as 24 awards, including 4 prestigious BAFTA awards) crime series will suit you.

Big evil in a small town

Located in the charming Calder Valley, that is in the Yorkshire county of Northern England, the "Happy Valley" will introduce you to the life story of Catherine Cawood (played masterfully by Sarah Lancashire, known for her roles in "The Last Tango in Halifax" and "Juliet") through the small screen in your home. The divorced police sergeant is on the threshold of her fifties and she is still struggling with the tragic loss of her daughter Rebecca, who decided to take her own life eight years ago.

In addition to Catherine, father Richard (Derek Riddell) and brother Daniel (Karl Davies), Rebecca left behind her son Ryan (Rhys Connah), whom Catherine cares for along with her addiction-prone sister Clara (Siobhan Finneran). With her son, the rest of the family, on the other hand, does not want to have any contact. Namely, although Ryan himself, of course, is not significantly different from other children, this does not change the fact that his birth and Rebecca's suicide are the consequences of rape for which his father Tommy (James Norton) was never convicted.

After learning that Tommy was released from prison for drug smuggling, and later that he is also one of the potential accomplices in the kidnapping of a certain Ann (Charlie Murphy), armed with fearlessness, persistence and a sharp sense of humor, Catherine will do everything in her power to return him in prison. Sooner or later justice will finally reach him.

This series is at the moment brutally explicit and, at the other painfully emotional, but that's why no one can say that it is boring. So, in the end, we can say that this is one of those series that are worth checking out.
