A “Harry Potter” TV series is officially moving forward!
Max will produce series in association with Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.
The TV series about Harry Potter is getting closer to being made. In April last year, Warner Bros. Discovery officially announced and ordered a series based on the wizard world of Harry Potter. Now things are slowly heating up with lots of pitches competing for the right to adapt the Harry Potter books by author JK Rowling.
As reported by foreign media, among those who compete, that is, screenwriters who present their visions to the streaming platform Max and Warner Bros. Television are: Martha Hillier (The Last Kingdom, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die), Kathleen Jordan (Teenage Bounty Hunters, The Decameron), Tom Moran (The Devil's Hour, The Feed) and Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes).
Namely, Max himself ordered pitches from a group of screenwriters that would reflect their vision.
The first round of meetings took place last week in Los Angeles, and according to foreign sources, the best pitches will go to the next round in the UK. It is not yet known how much Harry Potter's author JK Rowling was involved in the process, but she is expected to be involved in making decisions about the series because she is an executive producer.
There is an option for more than one of the above screenwriters to be involved in the project, and it seems that Max is also open to the possibility of developing more than one idea based on "Harry Potter".
The series is produced by Brontë Film and TV (a production company managed by Rowling's agent Neil Blair) and Warner Bros Television. Executive producers are Rowling, Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman (who also produced the films). The main characters will be interpreted by a new cast, about which we do not know anything yet, most likely because no one has been considered yet, given that Max first focused on finding a showrunner. It is expected that the Max series could arrive in 2025/26. years.
