Coming soon: the psychological thriller "Cat Person"

Why would anyone lie about having cats? Hulu has revealed the first trailer for "Cat Person", a psychological thriller based on Kristen Roupenian's short story of the same name published in 2017 in The New Yorker magazine. This story quickly went viral - precisely because of its dating theme that can be identified with modern times. It's a story about Margot ( Emilia Jones ), a student who, after a long correspondence with the funny, slightly older Robert ( Nicholas Braun ), goes on a date with him to realize that Robert in the real world is not even a shadow of Robert through text messages. Plus, he doesn't have the cats he talked about having in his apartment. Margot cuts off contact because she starts to wonder what he made up, but Robert doesn't want to leave her alone. On the contrary, the horror of a bad date is just beginning.

The director is Susanna Fogel, and Michelle Ashford adapted the script. Along with Jones and Braun, Geraldine Viswanathan, Hope Davis, Michael Gandolfini, Liza Koshy, Fred Melamed, Isaac Cole Powell and Isabella Rossellini also star.
Critics are divided about this title – it did quite well at the Sundance Film Festival back in January 2023, but it currently has only 46% on the Rotten Tomatoes portal. In certain countries, the film can already be found and at one point Netflix, Bleecker Street and Open Road Films were realy interested in it.

“Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them,” reads the Margaret Atwood quote serving as the film’s epigraph, which perfectly sums up the characters’ disparate perspectives on their shared dating experience.
You will be able to watch the psychological thriller "Cat Person" on the streaming service Hulu from February 9.
