"Blue Eye Samurai" will be back with a second season!
Netflix has already greenlit a second season that will continue Mizu's revenge journey!
The journey is far from the end for Maya Erskine's Mizu in the animated series "Blue Eye Samurai ". Namely, Netflix has renewed the violent, revenge-filled animated action series for adults from creators Michael Green and Amber Noizumi for a second season. That's no surprise considering the stunningly animated title has been hailed as one of the best on television in 2023.
The show’s renewal comes as no surprise considering its great popularity. It spent several weeks in Netflix’s top 10 and this animated series made several best-of-the-year lists. While some animated series often get picked up for at least a season or two, it seems we’ll have to wait a while until we find out just how long Mizu’s journey may stretch on for.
"The Blue Eye Samurai" anime series takes place in Japan in the Edo period and follows Mizu, a mixed-race swordsman who craves revenge against the white men responsible for kidnapping her mother and calling her a "creature of shame".
Hiding her gender, she takes up a sword and travels across the country to end men's lives in revenge. Along the way, Mizu becomes a monster in the eyes of her enemies, breaking through them with great ease and making her way towards the ruthless Abijah Fowler ( Kenneth Branagh ). However, her journey is not only a quest for revenge, as Mizu also tries to get to know herself.
The star-studded cast includes George Takei, Masi Oka, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Brenda Song, Darren Barnet, Randall Park, Stephanie Hsu, Ming-Na Wen, Harry Shum Jr. and Mark Dacascos.
Details about future seasons are not yet known, but the end of the first season indicates that Mizu will go abroad. The co-creators said they have a plan to create four seasons and hope that the audience as well as Netflix will continue to support their journey.
