The Sleep Habits of Millionaires

Often successful and rich people become that not only because of exceptional diligence or banal luck but also because of a special day and night routine. If you study the daily habits of famous billionaires, it becomes clear how and why everyone has time.

"The Sleepless Elite" is a term coined by the Wall Street Journal. This minority (1 to 3 percent of the population) includes people with the Thatcher Gene, a genetic mutation that requires less sleep. And therefore, while the whole world is asleep, the "sleepless elite" is making money. It is not known which of the billionaires has this gene, but we know for sure that many successful people sleep very little and get up long before dawn.

For example, former US President Donald Trump has been sleeping 3-4 hours a day for decades. Airbnb board member Angela Ahrendts wakes up every day at 4:35 a.m. and admits she has a headache if she spends more than six hours in bed.

Canadian-Italian businessman Sergio Marchionne gets up at 3:30 in the morning and immediately goes to work. His associates claimed that he invented "the eighth day of the week" in that way. Former Pepsico CEO Indra Nooyi sleeps 4-5 hours a night. Businesswoman Marisa Meyer (Yahoo!, Google) has a similar schedule.

However, sacrificing sleep sometimes leads to very unpleasant consequences. So Meyer once missed an important dinner with the board. Huffington Post co-founder Ariana Huffington, on the other hand, even fainted due to a chronic lack of sleep.

Therefore, many other successful leaders still choose healthier 6-8 hours of sleep. For example, IT billionaire Jack Dorsey goes to bed at 11 pm and wakes up at 5 am. Tesla founder Elon Musk is also trying to control his sleep regime: after years of overwork and lack of rest, the billionaire sleeps a reasonable six hours a day."I tried to sleep less, but then overall productivity dropped," Musk said in an interview.

However, to understand how productive and healthy sleep will make you, it is better not to focus on other people, even if they are very successful, but to listen to your body and its needs. An individual sleep schedule, that suits you in the long run, will help maintain your efficiency and good health.
