Angelina Jolie talks about the importance of beekeeping in a new video

Back in May, Angelina Jolie wanted to draw attention to the importance of these pollinators for the entire ecosystem and to the reduction of their population, but also to announce the ‘Women for Bees’ project organized by UNESCO and Guerlain. With this project, she wants to help bees, but also women from different parts of the world. Jolie wants to teach them skills that they could use for earning and helping their families and communities, but, at the same time, contribute to preserving the environment.

On that occasion, Angelina said that she planned to set up beehives in her own home, and in the latest video for Vogue, we can see her touring the beehives with the first participants of the 'Women for Bees' programme. The world’s bee population is drastically declining due to habitat loss, monocultures, pesticides, and parasites, affecting entire ecosystems and humanity, Angelina and course participants warned.

"I thought I knew something about bees and beekeeping and training, and I thought I understood the importance," Jolie explained. "But really, when you really dig into it and you really start to learn about what, for example, what we would lose, 30% of the honey bees disappearing. Had we not had the beekeepers and the work of places like OFA, we would lose them."

I wasn’t a young ecologist, I’m more of a humanist. I was active in refugee issues, fighting persecution. But everything always leads back to the environment. People very often migrate because of the damage done to the environment, 'said Angelina Jolie, noting the link between the various activist goals she is targeting.
