Elliot Page makes the first red carpet appearance since coming out as transgender

Much attention at this year’s Met Gala has been stolen up by actor Elliot Page, 33, for whom this was his first appearance on the red carpet since announcing last December that he identified as a transgender man.

He made his debut on the red carpet wearing an elegant black suit and sneakers. He accessorized the outfit with a green rose pinned to his lapel.

After coming out as a transgender man, Elliot broke up with Canadian dancer Emma Portner, who publicly supported his decision to change his gender.

Page publically came out in December last year on Twitter. He changed his name from Ellen to Elliot around the same time.

"Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot," Page said. "I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can't begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self," the actor wrote in the announcement.

The star of the films ‘Juno’ and ‘Inception’ underwent his first gender reassignment surgery in March, removing breast tissue to achieve a more masculine look.
