How to choose the perfect scent for your home
Candles, diffusers for the home - all this is not a matter of primary necessity, but these little things create a special atmosphere in our home.
The character of the space is determined by the details that fill it.
Candles, diffusers, perfumed paper for the home - all this, of course, is not a matter of primary necessity, but these little things create a special style and atmosphere in our home.
A little history…
You have probably heard many times about how the first perfume compositions for interiors were born (at that time, however, such a name was unthinkable). We could hear about perfumes for the first time in history classes when professors spoke about the magical and religious rites of ancient tribes and civilizations, which burned incense, sandalwood, myrrh, musk during the ritual...
Scented candles first appeared in the Ancient East. Priests used them for various rituals and then began to use them in everyday life. American women from the era of colonization also gave their contribution to the development of scented candles, when they empirically discovered that by cooking berries and fruits, you can get wax that not only burns well but also smells nice.
It is interesting that in the time before our era, the so-called perfumery for clothes was in use. The ancient Greeks hid various aromatic compounds in stored fabrics, which were mixtures of oil and powder.
The history of the appearance of diffusers dates back to medieval Europe, when olive oil mixed with essential oils was poured into small containers and cane was placed inside. In fact, not much has changed since then, except that the materials have become a bit more modern.
Another ancient method used to refresh the room with scent is Armenian paper. Its history began in the 19th century, when the French traveler Auguste Ponsot visited Armenia, which was part of the Ottoman Empire. He found that locals were burning benzoin to make their homes smell nice. Returning to France and seeking the support of a friend of pharmacists, Ponsot immediately started the production of unusual paper, achieving unprecedented success in salons and boudoirs.
How to choose a fragrance for your home?
It is important to understand that the composition should emphasize, reveal and complement the interior, but not oppose it in any way. Therefore, before you buy a fragrance for the home, decide in which room it will "come to life" and whether the fragrance fits there.
The smell for the bedroom should be mild and this is an extremely important rule. When choosing a fragrance for your bedroom, keep in mind that strong scents that look good in the living room can make you feel bad and make it harder to fall asleep in the bedroom. Avoid notes of menthol and citrus or at least be careful with them. Such scents encourage excessive activity and, if that is not your goal, it is better to replace them with calmer notes of white flowers, lavender, and warm spices.
