Marisa Abela becomes music superstar Amy Winehouse in the "Back to Black" trailer!
Abela stars as Amy Winehouse in the long-awaited Sam Taylor-Johnson biopic.
It's time for Marisa Abela to step into the spotlight with the first international teaser trailer for the Amy Winehouse biopic "Back to Black". Sam Taylor-Johnson will show us the stormy rise of a revolutionary icon of modern jazz. The film deals with Winehouse's album of the same name, the path that led to its recording and her life during the time when she became famous with hits like "Rehab" and "You Know I'm No Good".
The first frames from the film announce the long journey that Abelina Winehouse took to become a music legend. "Back to Black" will show Winehouse's career from the very beginning in North London and Camden High Street, where she usually performed throughout the 2000s.
After struggling to make a name for herself on the local jazz scene, her first album "Frank" brought her critical praise in the UK before "Back to Black" turned her into a global superstar, a Grammy winner who creates her soulful music inspired by relationships and events in her life. Abela wore a beehive hairstyle and Winehouse-esque mole throughout the artist's meteoric rise and disastrous fall, and that culminated with her early death at age 27 from alcohol poisoning.
The film also features a strong supporting actress. Among the most important is Jack O'Connell, who will play the singer's ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, with whom she lived a toxic relationship full of drugs, alcohol, and abuse that inspired much of the music from "Back to Black". Eddie Marsan and Leslie Manville are also set to star in this biopic. As a fan of Amy Winehouse, Taylor-Johnson promised to handle the project with the feeling and attention it deserves along with her collaborator Matt Greenhalgh, who wrote the screenplay.
The film "Back to Black" will begin its worldwide distribution on April 12 of this year.
