Mercedes concept model Vision EQXX

Traveling from Sindelfingen, across the Swiss Alps and northern Italy to the destination Cassis on the Cote d'Azur, the average consumption was 8.7 kWh / 100 km.

The Mercedes concept car Vision EQXX should have a range of more than 1000 kilometers on a single charge. Mercedes-Benz chose to put it to the test by driving the Vision EQXX from Sindelfingen, Germany, via the Swiss Alps and northern Italy to Cassis on the Cote d'Azur.

Despite all of the obstacles, they were successful.

Special tires, efficient propulsion, but also excellent aerodynamics have helped to achieve this result, and there is no doubt that the experience gained in this project will be used in the upcoming production of Mercedes vehicles.

After 11 hours and 32 minutes of driving, the Vision EQXX completed its 1,008-kilometer journey with a remaining range of about 140 kilometers. This means that he could go on a trip along the Mediterranean coast without recharging.

A solar roof helps increase the reach

The technological vehicle gets extra efficiency due to its tires and their extremely low rolling resistance of 4.7. These are dimensions 185/65 R 20 97T, which means that they have a large diameter and a narrow tread.

Bridgestone has developed special Turanza Eco tires for the Vision EQXX that combine two innovative Bridgestone technologies that provide a greater range.

There is Enliten technology that reduces rolling resistance and weight by up to 20 percent. Logic technology reduces tire deformation while driving, partly through a tighter waistband. In addition, the transition from the tire to the rim has been optimized in collaboration with the Mercedes-Benz aerodynamics team.

The fixed solar roof helped increase the reach. 117 solar cells are powered by a 12-volt battery that supplies power to ancillary consumers such as the navigation system.

The added value is measurable by reducing the load on the high voltage battery and is displayed on the computer. Overall, solar charging increases the range by more than two percent - a total of a good 25 kilometers on a road of over 1,000 kilometers.
